What do you do? Full-time athlete, living the dream! What is an average training week? 30-35 hours - typically 20-25km in the pool, around 100km of running and up to 500km of cycling. Every training cycle I'll throw in one big week of over 40 hours too! My main focus is keeping consistent training though as I'm a strong believer that long term consistency leads to Ironman success. Why do you enjoy what you do so much? The sense of achievement and personal satisfaction when you complete a tough workout. Seeing your fitness improve over the course of a seasons training.; you really feel the work you've put in gives results. And of course, lining up on the start line of a race ready to give it your all and really test that training. What are your goals? To keep improving my Ironman time and placing! In the short-term to get a sub-9:20 at Ironman and to get myself a place in Kona for 2009. Looking beyond those goals I want to get myself into shape to go sub-9 hours at Ironman and podium in my age group. I hope that with enough hard work and dedication I can get fit enough to experience Ironman racing as a pro. Most significant achievement? My first Ironman in Austria. I had no idea how I'd really do, the distance was new to me and breaking 10 hours was only a dream. Getting off the bike knowing I had about 3:50 to run the marathon in was a great feeling. Finding I was over-confident in my running and really didn't appreciate what it takes to run 42.2km after a big swim and bike was a tough lesson. Hitting the wall at 30km of running was an experience and finding I could tough it out, keep pushing forward as best I could and get across the line under 10 hours was a massive high. From that point on I knew this was a race I wanted to work at. Most exciting event or adventure? Right now. Leaving a day job behind, and training full-time. Travelling round the world to find the best training environment I can and just living the athletic dream. It was a big step for me to take after years in the work force, but I don't regret it. I'm doing something I love and getting to meet new people and see new places. Everyday brings new experiences. Greatest indulgence? Coffee and New York Baked Cheesecake. Thoughts on Jaggad apparel? It's great to see a brand that stands out from the crowd. Willing to innovate and be bold. Final Words? Take whatever opportunities come your way. It's better to regret a decision you made than regret missing out. You'll only know what you can do by trying.
