What do you do? I work full time in Administration. Who could you not survive without? My physio, Victor Popov. He has looked after me for 13 years and has always given me guidance and caring treatment. He is a miracle worker. My boss Bette. She is a triathlete so understands everything and is very understanding. My wonderful sponsor Jaggad. Average training week? When I'm at the peak of Ironman training, it's something ridiculous like 40 hours a week. This includes 4 swim sessions, 4 bike sessions, 4-5 run sessions and 2 gym sessions. If you average it out over the whole year, it is probably more like 25 hours a week. Why enjoy so much? I enjoy meeting so many dedicated people who share a passion to push themselves and live the healthy life. The wonderful friends I train with who keep me chugging along when I'm struggling. They are certainly one of a kind. It is a privilege to belong to the Ironman family. What are your goals? Place in the top 10 in my age group in Hawaii 2009 and beat my Hawaii BP. Run my first non Ironman marathon in under 3:30 and not injure myself in the process. Overcome my fear of cycling alone! Exciting event/adventure : In 1999, I competed in both the Duathlon World Champs (North Carolina, USA) and Olympic Distance World Champs (Montreal, Canada), the London Triathlon (1st place) and also the Luxembourg Palace Race (Paris) all in a matter of 6 weeks. I also squeezed in a visit to Calgary and Regina in Canada to visit my beautiful friends Jocelyn and Geoff and celebrate Thanksgiving with them and their families. I had an awesome time. Most significant achievement? Probably qualifying for Hawaii in my first Ironman in 2001 and qualifying for Hawaii again in 2009, two years after a serious bike accident. Thoughts on Jaggad? Jaggad clothing is classy and comfortable. Who said "money can’t buy class"? It’s refreshing to see company giving back to the sport as it is a rarity these days. Favourite Jaggad Garment? I love my Edge shorts with the external leg grippers. They are so comfortable. I never get any chaffing. Words to live by: "The man who follows the crowd will usually get no further than the crowd. The man who walks alone is likely to find himself in places no one has". |
